better motivator: money or autonomy?

There’s a great book by Warren Bennis, Organizing Genius, in which he discusses the secrets of creative collaboration; how to organize groups to do extraordinary things. Warren talks about the groups’ WHY as being a driving force then he discusses how great leaders get out of the way of the groups collective and individual genius (more about this book later in post).

Recently I came across an incredible video that explains in greater detail why organizing genius works, check it out:

The highlights of Warren’s book are:

  1. Greatness starts with amazing people (who by the way are all around us)
  2. Great groups and great leaders thrive off one another
  3. Great groups have strong leaders
  4. Great leaders know how to find and identify great people
  5. Great groups are full of talented people who know how to work together
  6. Great groups work towards a powerful common purpose to achieve something way bigger then themselves, almost as if they were on a mission from God
  7. Great groups work independently yet connected
  8. Great groups see themselves as underdogs on the verge of winning
  9. Great groups always have an enemy
